My Thoughts on Product Design

What is a good product? To me, a good product should be useful. It should solve the existing problems and provide good tools for people to use. A great product is similar to what a good product is, but it has the last 10% that the good product does not have. The last 10% theory is from Principals of Product Design by Joshua Porter. He mentioned that the last 10% is “the blood, sweat, and tears of detail.” The last 10% is where you need to take more time and effort to design it. The last 10% is the one that makes the good and the great products different.

To me, I like to check out a lot of different products. I like to compare things. I like to make things better. I like to improve and become better. This is why I love how product designers are doing. They are improving things better either digitally or physically. They make things easier to use. It also involves creative ideas as well. This is why I love product design.

One digital product that I cannot live without is Facebook messenger. I use it every day to talk to people. I like to use stickers to interact with people as well. It helps us communicate with others easier. We can use stickers to express our feelings. Facebook messenger can be voice chat or video chat too. I have been using it for about 10 years already. Therefore, this is one of the products I cannot live without.

The digital product that I considered innovative is YouTube. The reason why it is innovative is that nowadays people use it as a day-to-day tool to learn new info, such as daily news, DIY projects, math, circuit theory, etc. I use it a lot. I use it as entertainment. I use it to learn new things. I use it to review any concepts I forgot. It is a tool that is really helpful for everyone to use. People can share their day-to-day life in the video blog with relatives that they could not get in touch with all the time. The relatives could just watch the videos to check in how they are doing. Therefore, YouTube is innovative! :)
